Papuan independence activists Want to Become a Member of MSG

Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG)

Papuan independence leader said that membership in the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) would be a major breakthrough.

Activists Papua Merdeka, OPM in Vanuatu said membership in the Melanesian Spearhead Group will be a major breakthrough in the struggle for independence from Indonesia.

West Papua National Coalition, KNPB for the liberation of Papua have been invited to the summit of MSG coming in Noumea by political groups Kanak indigenous New Caledonia, FLNKS (Kanak Socialist Front for National Liberation).

This is the first time activists Papua Movement will attend gatherings countries of Melanesia as an independent entity.

An application has been filed to give and receive full membership.

Andy Ayamiseba, lobbyists from Papua to the program Pacific Beat-Radio Australia says if the submission is successful, it will increase the status of the campaign for independence from Indonesia.

"By having the support of the immediate area we ... the international community will see that, yes, it was an area where West Papua have given their support,"
